Elder Care
The elderly and dependent adults can become vulnerable citizens. In nursing homes or other healthcare
facilities a patient may be abused or neglected.
Some examples include:
- Not attending to daily needs such as hygiene, food, clothing, or shelter
- Not providing proper nursing care such as leaving a patient unattended for hours
- Physical abuse which involves battery and/or sexual exploitation
- Financial abuse which involves fraud or misuse of money
Donald A. Eisner, Ph.D. J.D. is a licensed attorney and psychologist. He has a Ph.D. from West
Virginia University and a law degree from the University of West Los Angeles. He was licensed to
practice as an attorney in California in 1988. Donald Eisner has been a Visiting Professor of
Forensic Psychology at Alliant International University, where he taught courses on law and ethics
in mental health as well as psychopathology and psychological assessment. He has also taught
courses in developmental psychology while at the Gerontology Center at USC.
He has testified in State and Federal Court on mental health issues. Dr. Eisner has written
an academic textbook entitled,
“The Death of Psychotherapy: From Freud to Alien Abductions”.
He has published several articles in the area of gerontology and has been director of a geriatric
psychiatry unit.
Dr. Eisner has represented families who have brought wrongful death
and abuse and neglect lawsuits against nursing homes.
